Hi!
It occurred to me that maybe you’d like to know a little about the person that visits your front door every morning.
As you probably saw, my name is Aaron and I deliver newspapers for the Scranton Times-Tribune.
My very first job ever was what they called a paperboy. At the time we lived in Newport News, Virginia, and I was 14 years old. Back then, teenagers could deliver the paper. If memory serves, I had about the same number of customers to deliver to. The newspaper had both a morning edition and an evening edition and my route was for the morning edition. Back then, I had a bike, with baskets on it, and I would fold them all up, load up the bike, and take off. But most of the route was in one housing district if you will, and flat land. Here, in Moosic, not so much.
Fast forward to my first job as an adult. I joined the Marines, and later became a civilian, so needless to say… I have been waking up early for a very long time. I enjoy it. It’s very peaceful early in the morning.
I am an IT professional by trade and have experience working with some great companies… but when I saw that there was an opening for the Moosic route where I live, I thought… Why not? I’ve done this before, it’s my town, and I am probably going to be awake not much later than that anyway so some extra side income could be nice. I think we all need that with the price of eggs nowadays! (Laughs out loud)
It’s also a wonderful blast from the past. It’s nostalgic and a great way to get back to the things that are important. I work with my customers all day, whether it’s with delivering newspapers, supporting my company, and its customers, or simply helping people. You don’t just pay for a product, you also pay for a service and you deserve the maximum quality for both.
I love the concept of the newspaper, because it takes me back to something that’s near and dear to me – it’s a very brief phrase in our constitution… Freedom of the press. It’s a literal press as far as the newspaper is concerned, and not only is it a favorite American pastime… But also a very important way to deliver information to the people in our neighborhoods. Even in 2023 with everything so Internet-based, 20% of Americans get their news from the paper. So whether I pretend I am Benjamin Franklin or Paul Revere in the mornings (laughs) I take it seriously.
You can get your news, coupons, and other information many different ways. But nothing compares to unfolding your newspaper with coffee, and just taking in what’s happening.
Thank you so much for being an important customer and an awesome neighbor!
